Tea Partier Ousts Six-Term Senator Dick Lugar

Dick Lugar is a sad old man tonight.

The 80-year-old six-term senator was beaten handily in an Indiana Republican primary today. The winner, Richard Mourdock, has hardcore Tea Party support.

Here’s what they had to say about it over at Breitbart:

Conservative grassroots realize that the house and senate races are perhaps more important than that of the presidency, for good reason: they see a Democrat with some socialist policies and a moderate Republican whose pledges haven’t yet brought them confidence in his leadership. They see the need for a conservative, Constitutionally-obedient congress to either circumvent what a Democrat White House would throw their way, or keep a moderate White House from reaching across the aisle one too many times.

Lugar’s apparenthistory of bi-partisanship and Washington insider-dom caught up to him after 36 years on the job. His opponent cast him as a phony conservative for his support for the TARP bailout and his votes to confirm Elena Kagan and Sonja Sotomayor to the Supreme Court.

And it’s a good thing the Indiana Tea Party got there when they did. Dick Lugar was clearly heading down the road to Democratville, just look at his voting record!

  • Rated 0% by SANE, indicating a pro-military voting record.
  • Rated 0% by NARAL, indicating a pro-life voting record.
  • Rated 100% by the Christian Coalition: a pro-Family-Value voting record.
  • Rated 0% by the ACLU, indicating an anti-civil rights voting record.
  • Rated 96% by the US COC, indicating a pro-business voting record.
  • Rated 27% by the NEA, indicating anti-public education votes.
  • Rated 0% by the CAF, indicating opposition to energy independence.
  • Rated 100% by CATO, indicating a pro-free trade voting record.
  • Rated 0% by the AFL-CIO, indicating an anti-union voting record.
  • Rated 0% by the AU, indicating opposition to church-state separation.
  • Rated 0% by the CTJ, indicating opposition to progressive taxation.

I’m happy for Indiana. They’ll finally have a Senator who will stand up for conservative values
