UPDATE: Potato has issued a statement saying that he will be suspending his campaign for UISG President indefinitely.
It is with a heavy heart that I come before all of you, my supporters, this evening. As you now know, my campaign has come under fire today thanks to a few unfortunate photographs of me that surfaced today…
I can not express how sorry I am for betraying the trust of my supporters, my family, and – most of all – my wife Beth. I ask that media respect my family’s privacy as we work through this difficult time.
It is with the deepest sorrow that I am suspending my campaign for UISG President indefinitely.
University of Iowa Student Government President candidate Potato has been accused of carrying on an exchange of sexually explicit materials with a campaign intern over the past week.
PTB broke the story today at 5:23 p.m. after Potato tweeted an explicit photograph along with a message that read, “@[intern]Hey sexy happy birthday ”. The tweet was promptly deleted.
Permission to Boogie has also received additional photographs submitted by an individual close to the woman with whom Potato is alleged to have carried on the affair.
At the time of publication, our request for a comment from Potato has not been filled, nor has an official statement been made by the Potato campaign regarding the incident.
Potato entered the UISG Presidential race little over a week ago and quickly amassed 100 followers on Twitter. University of Iowa community members believe that this will likely end Potato’s campaign.
